Earthwork in a Booming Small City
Excavation contractors in Ridgefield work in one of the fastest-growing cities in the region. Ridgefield had 2,147 residents in 2000, 4,763 in 2010 and 10,319 in 2020, and the 2025 estimate is 16,132. The city sits at about 259 feet and incorporated on August 26, 1909.
Refuge headquarters
Ridgefield is headquarters of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge, created by Congress in 1965 to protect Canada goose nesting grounds and a primary reserve for waterfowl on the Pacific Flyway. Lake River runs along the lowlands. Properties near wetlands and streams face critical-area rules for clearing and grading.
Deep history
The Chinookan village of Cathlapotle, occupied from 1450 and possibly part of a settlement more than 2,000 years old, held 700 to 800 people when Lewis and Clark visited. Cultural resource rules can apply near the river, and we stop and report anything that looks like an artifact.
New neighborhoods
With most homes brand new, work is finishing yards, adding shops and RV pads, fixing drainage in new subdivisions and trenching for ADUs.
Common Ridgefield jobs
- Back yard grading and drainage
- Shop and RV pads
- Utility trenching
- Clearing on larger lots
Lake River lowlands
James Carty began a ferry across Lake River in 1851, and the river lowlands remain wet, low ground today. Lots that step down toward the lowlands need drainage carried to an approved outlet rather than spilling over the edge, and fill placed near the bottom of slopes has to be compacted and protected from erosion.
Keeping up with new streets
With thousands of new homes, haul routes change often as streets open and close. We plan truck access with the current street layout and any construction traffic around your site.
